One of the famous hill stations of north India - Nainital


Nainital is known as the Lake District of India which is located in the Himalayan region amongst the Kumaon hills become a paradise for nature lovers. Nainital is a magnificent holiday place with a rich treasure of lakes and hills. Nainital is like a destination for both the young and the old.

The city of Nainital is in the Northern state of India, is called Uttrakhand, there is a beautiful international tourist place for tourist from across the world called as Nainital. It is derived it's name by most popular Naini lake and Naina Devi temple. The total area of Nainital is approximately of 11.73 sq km with maximum temperature having 28 Deg. C and minimum temperature 7.6 Deg. C. 




Nainital is referred to as the lake of three monks or Tri Rishi Sarovar as mentioned in the Manas Khand chapter of the Skanda Purana. As the history says that three monks are Atri, Pulaha and Pulastya stopped over at Nainital on their pilgrimage, to suffocate their thirst. Finding no water, they were dug a hole and transferred some water in that hole to from the religious lake of Tibet, it is Mansarovar lake. This is the reason famous Naini lake of Nainital came into existence. The other history is that the Sati’s left eye fell in this center, who was wife of lord Shiva and formed a leaf eye shaped lake, and thus all has emerged the city of Nainital.   







Recent history shows that the city of Nainital was brought into limelight by P. Barron, who was a British sugar merchant, in 1839. The beauty of Nainital with the central lake cushioned among the forests attracted this person to be built a house named Pilgrim’s Cottage and located in Nainital. P. Barron was given a way to the trend of settling down in Nainital and the city became an important administrative town very soon. It is known for its popular landslide of 1880 which leveled out the entire city.
