'Switzerland of the East - Kashmir'


The valley of Kashmir is known for its beauty and charm all over the world. The Kashmir valley is located around 300 km. from Jammu across forested drains and steep mountain passes. The emerald valley of Kashmir is lying in the Himalayas, under crystal blue skies, against the snow-capped mountains background. It is a magical land of fresh water lakes, silvery streams, rivers, deodar and chinar forests, pine, snow clad mountains, sparkling waterfalls, green meadows shikaras and grassy slopes full of flowers of various colours. 




Kashmir is an oval plateau more than 5000 feet high and framed by three Himalayan ranges such as the Zanskar, Karakoram and Pir Panjal. The total area of Kashmir has 222,236 sq. km. and is often referred as the 'Switzerland of the East'. It is the land of enticing beauty with exotic fruits, flowers and flora. Srinagar, the capital of Kasmir is nestled amidst the huge lakes, unique floating gardens and meadows  in the valley. The Kashmir state is mainly dominated by the Kashmiris and Muslims and.

When it floods in spring or summer, the Wular lake has increase in size and reaches 260 square km, after it makes one of the largest lakes in India. In winter, it enough to decreases in size. The Dal lake is having smaller lake and covers 38 square km and it is located very near to capital city of Srinagar. 






How to Reach:

Jammu is the nearest railway station for Kashmir. From Jammu, the tourists can either take the flight otherwise travel by road to Srinagar. In Kashmir, before the Jawahar tunnel was completed, the journey has been taken two days with an overnight stop at Batote. Now, it could be covered in one long day.
